The estate has benefited from the experience and expertise of the Haut-Bailly winemaking team since 2012. The ideal conditions of 2015 enabled a very attractive wine to be made at Château Le Pape.
Two assets from the start in this vintage: a quick, even flowering in June and an equally quick, even véraison in late July-early August.
The blend of Château Le Pape 2015 is dense and powerful. It is characterised by the combination of perfectly ripe Merlots and finely textured Cabernets. This 2015 expresses fully the specificity of this terroir which regularly produces wines with class.
James Suckling, March 2016
A dense and racy red with dried berry and plum character, mineral and salt undertones. Full, fresh. 92 - 93
Decanter, Jane Anson, April 2016
An easy recommendation; the third vintage under Haut-Bailly ownership. Pesticides had been used previously so they are retraining the roots to go deeper. Lovely depth, velvety tannins and rich dark fruits. Rich toffee finish helped by 30% new oak. 92
Vinous, Antonio Galloni, April 2016
The 2015 Le Pape is round, succulent and generous, all qualities that are brought out by the radiance of the vintage and the high presence of Merlot in the blend. Red stone fruit, rose petal and sweet spice notes are front and center in this attractive, forward Pessac-Leognan from the team at Haut Bailly. Best of all, the 2015 will drink well early because of its fruit-driven juiciness and flesh. There is plenty to like. 89 - 91
